Don’t Just Knock on Opportunity’s Door, Kick It Down!

Don’t Just Knock on Opportunity’s Door, Kick It Down!

Milton Berle is quoted as saying, “If Opportunity Doesn’t knock, Build a door.”  And that’s fair, but if you know me…  Then you know, I’m not waiting for opportunity to find me.  I’m going to go look for it.  I think Sweet Brown said it best, “Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!

In fact, if you are waiting for opportunity to find you, then most likely you are missing out.  Most people who have made the leap to chase their dream(s) or to find the next job weren’t sitting around twiddling their thumbs hoping that someone notices them.  Most likely they are fending off everyone who told them, “they can’t,” “You need to focus on where you are now,” or whatever lame excuse to sit on your hands and wait your turn.

So First… Make it a Goal to find your gift.  Make it a Priority to find your passion.  When you have them, start looking for opportunities that will allow you to operate in your gifting.  Start looking for that job that will match your passions.

Yes there is a laundry list of things that may not line up, there are all kinds of reasons that the time is not right, and you may not be able to make the money that you are making now.  Those are true realities, but why must you subject yourself to a job that you hate.

Now this is off the cuff and just the way I believe.  I feel that when you chase your dream and when you operate in the area that you are gifted, God will make a way.  I don’t know how it happens, all I know is that in my life, things that I’ve worried about, God has already worked it out.  Of course I have to go through it, and though I say that I have faith, often I prove how faithless I am with the amount of worrying that I do.

Second…  Stop doing Crap that you Hate!  I would say another word, but I don’t want to offend my readers. But really STOP IT!  If you want to do something different, Do IT!  Don’t wait for permission, don’t wait for someone to notice you, don’t wait for the opportunity to find you.  And don’t let what you don’t have discourage you.  Start today, and if you can’t start today, start making plans.

Begin looking for opportunities that speak to your passion or aligns with your gift.  Start really thinking about how you can get started, who’s hiring, who can mentor you…  You don’t have to know what to do, all you have to do is, Do Something!

So…  PAUSE!!!  Let me say this, because this can be misinterpreted to make some think I’m telling you to quit your job, let go of your responsibilities and chase waterfalls.  That’s not it at all.  I am suggesting, look for ways to make this dream a reality.  In some cases, you might find a job that not only pays you what you were making, you might even get a raise.  If were you are trying to go requires certification, start looking for ways to attain it.  Find social groups in your area, meetups, Professional Organizations where like-minded people can gather.   Get involved, serve on a board, volunteer to be an officer.  Go for it, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

So Now What?

Whatever you do, don’t sit there and hope that someone notices or something happens!  Make it happen.  Stop being the victim that didn’t get the job, the raise, or the promotion.  No!  From now on, you are no longer waiting for opportunity, you are on the hunt.  And when you find this door called “Opportunity,” please do not knock.  I want you to get  running start, jump in the air and kick that… (Not going to offend my readers.)… Just kick the door down!

Stay Real and Real Blessed.
